This is the draft editorial cartoon by
that was rejected by a Washington Post opinion editor. The cartoon features Jeff Bezos (Amazon/Whole Foods/Zappos/Twitch/Ring/Audible), Sam Altman (OpenAI), Mark Zuckerberg (Meta/Facebook/Instagram/Threads/WhatsApp), Patrick Soon-Shiong (Los Angeles Times), and Mickey Mouse (employee of Disney-ABC). Because of this she quit the Post after a nearly 17-year career there and she told the world why.Because of her courage and powerful statement in support of press freedom Ann Telnaes was the Media and Democracy Project’s "Hero of the Month” for January 2025. This month, Telnaes won the 2025 Pulitzer Prize (her second) for work at the Post “delivering piercing commentary on powerful people and institutions with deftness, creativity, and…fearlessness.”
In a statement after winning her latest Pulitzer, Telnaes said: “In a time when the free press is under attack by autocrats in their quest to silence dissent, editorial cartoons and satire are essential for a democracy to survive and thrive. I’m honored to receive this award and encourage everyone to support their local cartoonist.”
