July 7, Nick Vadala of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on MAD’s petition
The MAD petition is “different from garden-variety complaints” made about media outlets, said Matt Wood, vice president of policy at the Washington-based advocacy organization Free Press, which addresses media public-interest issues. Unlike many complaints, the petition cites substantial evidence of knowing lies on the part WTXF-TV’s owner business, and therefore makes it valid to question whether the Fox organization is fit to hold a broadcast license, Wood said.
“The FCC has the ability and duty to ask these questions….If a licensee knowingly distorts news, it is in [the FCC’s] scope to question what the final decision should be,” Wood told the Inquirer.
