Thank you for sharing all the coverage of papers around the country giving the HandsOff protest the prominence that it deserves. I ‘ve seen reports that the count was 5.2 million people across the country. That’s huge . It’s truly a mystery why the NYTimes and the Boston Globe downplayed the protest of over 100k people each in their cities . Obeying in advance?

Actually, it’s not a mystery. ☹️

This is fantastic that you are highlighting this. I looked at the Boston globe online and they had the protests as the top headline. Then in the print edition it’s not even on the front page.

My local news KBSW (Hearst media) did a great job reporting it both on their app Saturday and on their broadcast that night and on Sunday and they again reported during todays news. This is a big deal.

Hi guys, my experience yesterday was Awesome! I’m so Grateful I was able to attend!

Yes, I was there yesterday, Sat.,April 5. We in Spokane, Washington rose out of our cocoons, our winter shelters … we did not surrender, we have not given up, or waved a white flag (like the despicab (Law Firms capitulating to DjtRuMp). We quietly chose to make our signs, and they are Awesome 👏🏼, call the one person who was not afraid to speak out, when I shared how I was feeling. I asked if she come with me to the Hands Off protest. She immediately said yes! Well, at least then I knew I had one ally. As physically challenging as it was… nothing and no one was going to stop me. Driving to the rally , my heart was beating so fast, the roads were busy, but I continued not knowing where I was going but then I have my gps (thank heaven). Suddenly out of the corner of my left eye there was a single man holding his sign, Oh my… I thought Awesome, here’s a likeminded person! … then a little group… and beyond I saw faces of people, Smiling! , holding their signs…facing the main road alive with cars, and trucks, and buses…and people honking their horns in reply… Yes! for me it was Miraculous! I found my people. I even found my friend whose husband came along…great message on his sign✨There were all kinds of great messages. There were tables set up for those who wanted to make a sign, or take one done!!

Together we can make a Difference!

People wanted to be heard, more and more neighbors arrived, they came from towns and more towns I never knew existed. We weren’t afraid to talk… to share our feelings! I spend 99% of my life reclining in a chair or bed… it keeps me from being in pain. This time, this moment has renewed my spirit. This too, stopped the pain from trying to get my attention. The kindness and respect and resolve of all I saw, and those I met… young and middle aged, and seniors. There were many in their 80s and nineties. Many in their teens and twenties and thirties. Whatever the age, gender, race, creed, we were each at this Protest for Freedom and Democracy and the Right to Choose and to be part of that Movement that was founded by our deep desire to protect our children, our country, our Democracy from tyranny and oppression and fascist would be dictators.

WE are The People. We MATTER! We Rose up to “Do Good Trouble “.

Very disappointed in MSNBC. Minimum coverage today. Nicole gave it less than 30 seconds. WTF?

I too read reports of 5+ million in attendance … am hoping world wide reporting will help… but this immediate bow down by everyone… never thought things would happen this quite this fast.

We all need to move to Iowa and become farmers and eat our breakfast at a local diner because then the New York Times would be all over us wanting to know about our opinions.

Oh please, let me paraphrase Orange man. “ The NYTimes is still in business”? ( he said that about another newspaper but you get the point). They are part of it if they aren’t against it.

Thank you. For your graphic comparison of the NYT and the grounded local media. The NYT has been a major advocate normalizing the idea of facsism for Trump.

NYT & WP: What Protests?

Over a thousand protests everywhere,

But read the press you’d be unaware.

There’s few stories in your news dump.

Corporate Media is afraid of Trump.

One thought from a recovering journalist: the timing of the protests likely didn’t help. Sunday 1As are largely laid out in advance, with one or two holes or spots reserved for breaking or live news. (This is true for most papers.) This is not to say that pages are not re-made for big stories and advance stories moved below the fold or held for another day (depending on when news breaks). Neither is this to excuse NYT’s lack of news judgment. (I have a long list of professional differences with them, and their history of being a day late and a dollar short on stories contributes at least an entire chapter to the book of American journalism.) I’m merely pointing out that Saturday afternoons may be the best times to get together, but they may not be the best times to break onto front pages.
