SEPT 7, 2023: Senate Confirms Anna Gomez as FCC Commissioner
On September 7, the U.S. Senate voted 55-43 to confirm Anna Gomez, President Biden's nominee, to be an FCC Commissioner.
Gomez, a telecommunications attorney, served for 12 years in various FCC staff positions, including as deputy chief of the International Bureau and senior legal advisor to former FCC Chairman William Kennard.
Her confirmation gives the FCC its first 3-2 Democratic majority since Biden took office in January 2021. FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel – a Barack Obama appointee to the FCC in 2012 and President Biden’s appointeea to the chairmanship in 2021 – had faced a Commission split 2-2 between Democrats and Republicans.
