To the extent that they do actual journalism that has sources, yes. Actually, a Fox journalist is one of the current cases motivating Republicans to support the bill.
Thank you for this, Jonathan and MAD, but color me skeptical about Fox's motives. “FOX News Media remains committed to protecting the rights of a free press and freedom of speech and believes this decision should be appealed" is rightwing cover for "we can continue to lie to the public with impunity and courts can't stop us." The day is coming when courts WILL stop Fox and it can't get here soon enough.
As you know , we agree that when Fox behaves egregiously -- which they do all too often -- they should be sanctioned to the extent our laws and regulation allow.
But that doesn't mean that in this specific case their former reporter may indeed be being threatened with contempt in a way that is troubling for all journalists.
Knowing that we ALL need to stand up and protect actual journalism, I just started a paid subscription. I also subscribe to the substacks of Joyce Vance, Ruth Ben-Ghiat, Timothy Snyder, and others, as well as "Mother Jones" and "The New Republic." It adds up to quite a lot per year, but I am figuring that putting my money where my mouth is is particularly important now, when the legacy media and CEOs of the newspapers and tech companies have bent over to let the orange turd fuck them up the ass. It's only money, but it speaks well when given in support of these fine journalistic sources! We have to take the threats seriously.
