Public Comments: Aug. 23 - Nov. 1, 2023
The FCC opened the WTXF renewal process to public comment. This is a summary of comments submitted from August to November 2023
On August 23, 2023, the FCC issued public notice granting MAD’s request that the process be open to public comment. "We have concluded that classifying this proceeding as permit-but-disclose would, in this case, permit broader public participation and thereby serve the public interest," the FCC Media Bureau said in their Public Notice.
As of November 1, 2023, 131 comments have been submitted1 . Of those, by our count, 114 are in favor of our petition while 17 are opposed. Some of the filings in opposition are by organizations such as the National Association of Broadcasters or Philadelphia politicians and others. Those opposed to our petition predominantly focus on the quality of WTXF programming and ignore broader issues of Fox Corporation or Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch’s character.
The comments may be found in the FCC’s Electronic Comment Filing System by searching for proceeding 23-293. We will also supply our tabulation of the comments, with links to them, on request.
This count does not include filings by Fox, MAD, or the allies of MAD including former FCC commissioners and media executives whose comments are listed separately in this timeline. We are also excluding two comments that do not relate to this matter and appear to be filed in the wrong docket.
